The BP Cap

The BP cap that was installed last week is showing some positive results as oil has been diverted to a tanker standing by on the surface. The containment cap that was fit onto the leaking well is collecting 10,000 barrels of oil per day according to BP Chief Executive Tony Hayward.

On Saturday, Coast Guard Adm. It has been reported by Thad Allen that after its first full day of work, the cap placed on the gusher near the sea floor trapper about 252,000 gallons of oil.

Will the latest attempt to cap the spill work?

BP Chief Tony Hayward told reporters that they have another containment unit that would be functional from the next weekend, this way they would be able to cap majority of oil from the leak. So far, this latest attempt by BP is at least showing promise, although there seems to be quite a long road ahead.

The cap has made a difference, but the affects of the gulf oil spill disturbing as oil coated pelicans struggle through the shallow water. Dead dolphins and birds covered in oil wash up on shore. Not to mention the health risks that relief workers dealing with the oil spill are facing, including becoming exposed to the oil, vapors and fumes.
